Greetings!

Hey! Nice to see you! My network was down at work this morning, meaning no email, no Internet and no access to the files that reside on the server, so I found myself with a little time to work out a post. Lucky you.

*Homer bought us a Wii on the weekend. I’m not usually too keen on the video games (because I suck at them), but the Wii is FUN! We only have Wii Sports right now, so I’ll take any recommendations you have for more games (preferably active ones). Also, if anyone has Wii Fit, I’d love to know what you think.

*Bart is hilariously awesome at Wii bowling. His high score is 249. Mine is 137. It’s humiliating when he rolls his eyes and says, “Do you want me to show you how to do it, mom?”

*We’ve been battling with some pretty serious skin issues with Bart. The Dermatologist is pretty sure it’s Psoriasis. I’m more upset about the diagnosis than I thought I would be. If you Google Psoriasis, along with information about the cause (unknown), prevention (unclear) and the treatment (dubious), there is a lot of information about the emotional side effects of the condition. I don’t think anyone wants their child to have a condition that produces emotional side effects.

*We currently have five bottles of creams/lotions/potions for Bart’s skin. I am so grateful that, in addition to having universal healthcare, I have a drug plan paid for by my employer that gives me free prescription drugs. These things are not cheap.

*Tonight is Meet the Teacher night at Lisa & Bart’s school. Because we’ll only have a short time for dinner, I whipped together some crock-pot scalloped potatoes this morning. I didn’t have a recipe (or rather I didn’t have all of the ingredients for any one recipe that I could find), so I made one up. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

*Fall must be on its way, because I find myself wanting to bake and make soup and chili again. I saw this recipe on The Pioneer Woman Cooks, and I have since been looking for nice, ceramic pie plates (like this):
for less than $10, so I can make these for teacher/neighbour gifts at Christmas. Of course, I’ll have to try out the recipe first to make sure they are gift-worthy. Mmmm.

Hope you’re having a great day!

My favorite Wii game is Mario Kart. Not really active, but super fun.

Um, if you need to practice that chili recipe on anyone beforehand, I'm available!

the WiiFit is great and fun but it won't be the "workout" that many people think it will be. there is much stopping and starting but overall totally worth it
I hear you on the soup and chili - I was all prepped to make Baked Potato soup with lots of bacon and cheese over the weekend and then we were out of bacon. boo
also - I hope you find a good lotion potion for bart! hopefully you'll be able to avoid any and all emotional side effects

We LOVE our Wii fit, although it's not making us toned or anything. Still, it's a good daily reminder of my weight - oh, hooray! - and everyone thinks it is FUN.
My son is freakily good at wii bowling too! What is up with that?

Maybe Santa will bring us a Wii...

I'm sorry about Bart. I hope you can find the best solution possible

I'm sorry to hear about Bart. It's never easy to hear a diagnosis of any kind for your child.
If it makes you feel better, my friend has psoriasis. She wasn't the least bit emotionally traumatized by it - and she's a girl.
Just throwing it out there - but have you thought about calling a naturopath in addition? I've brought Matt to a naturopath because he had/has eczema and we literally have not had a bout since. (I have no idea if psoriasis is like that)
E-mail me if you want.

Ooooh, a Wii Fit sounds so fun. Let us know what kind of feedback you get on it.

I am sorry about Bart's possible diagnosis. Hopefully you will find a way to help him manage it, and help him deal with it emotionally.

I love the Emily Henry pie plates, but can't bring myself to spend that much on one. They are soooo pretty, though! Maybe you could find cute, inexpensive handmade ones on Etsy?

I have been hit with the Fall Baking Bug -- big time. Yum, yum, chili and fruit crisps!!

1. Poor Bart. I hope you find something to help sooth his poor skin.

2. Wii - We bought Rock Bank for D for his birthday and LOVE it. The whole family gets into it. Although it is rated teen (we can be lax that way). It has 3 instruments, you can buy a 2nd guitar to use as bass if someone (mom) feels left out.

3. That recipe, holy cow. Let me know how it goes. Pioneer woman's got it going on. I was salivating just reading it.

My DH has psoriasis, which started when he was in his teens, I believe. In the eleven years that we've been together, there have been really big advances in the medications that have almost totally cleared him up, especially in the summer. He now has none on his face or arms, although now that it's fall and he's in the sun less his back is having some issues, but in all fairness he hasn't been using his creme regularly again until recently. Make sure you look into light therapy; it helped DH when he had a more stubborn breakout a few years ago.

Obviously I have no experience with a child having it (yet), but DH has had no emotional problems from it. That having been said, I dread having either of the kids diagnosed, because as you said, you never want anything to be wrong with your kids.

I have a recommendation for the psoriasis... Healing Cream. My three have different skin problems, and this cream seams to take care of it within 24 hours of a break out. I'm pretty sure you can order on-line or I can drop it by next time I'm in your area (probably late October).

We have Rayman Raving Rabbits for the Wii and we really like it - it's pretty active (things like cow tossing and slamming bathroom doors on rabbits and stuff), and it's great for coordination on the wii. Some of the games are hard (there's a bunch of different mini-games)!

My ex-roommate also has Cooking Mama, which he loves. I like the idea of the game (you do different parts of the cooking process...peel potatoes, chop veggies, roll dough, etc), but the voice on it drives me crazy. I would suggest renting or borrowing it before purchasing. And I have to 2nd Jess's recommendation for Mario-Kart. We have that too, and we LOVE it.

Jelly Bean has excema and I can't believe how much our health insurance DOESN'T cover. Damn American Healthcare fiasco. Anyway.

That recipe? To. Die. For. The groaning she is talking about? Totally true. Swear.

Hey. Can *I* be on your Christmas gift list? Please?

We have a wii and we love it. The wii fit rocks, although ITA with the other comments that it's no substitute for REALLY doing Yoga or going to the gym. However, it is FUN so I actually DO it, which is better than being lazy and doing NOTHING.

Mario Kart is simply the 'funnest' video game I've ever played.

Actually, we've never been disappointed with anything we've bought for our wii!

Enjoy - but watch out for RSIs...I had to take a week off bowling because of shoulder pain!
