Weekend baking and kitchen computer

I tried two new recipe this weekend and they were both so yummy that I just had to post them.

The first was this recipe for Montreal Bagels (the second recipe on that page). Oh my, these are delicious and kind of fun to make. Homer is from Montreal originally and is a bit of a bagel snob. He proclaimed these to be the best bagels he has ever had. It probably doesn't hurt that he was eating fresh out of the oven, but still...

The second was this recipe for Coconut cookies. I was going to make my Ginger Snap recipe, but neglected to buy the required shortening. I didn't have chocolate chips for my go-to recipe of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but I did have coconut. These were very quick to make and quite tasty.

I did not sub whole wheat flour for the white in the bagels (this time), but did in the cookies with good results. Between the aroma of yeast, toasting sesame seeds and toasting coconut, the house smelled amazing.

By the way, do you have a computer in the kitchen? In our first house, we always talked about how great it would be to have a kitchen computer. When we moved to this house, which has a nice-sized kitchen, we immediately installed our main computer here. I can't think of a better place for it. Homer has "his" computer in the basement, and I have a laptop, but the kitchen computer is used more than any other in the house.

Both those recipes sound good. Our children's computer is in the dining room, which is completely open to the kitchen, so that they can always be observed while on the computer.

Kudos to you. I tried to make bagels once. Que disastre!

Yum! Am jealous. I spent the weekend in a marketing seminar - although it was a very interesting marketing seminar.

Bagels...yum. They look amazing!!

I have my laptop in the kitchen normally. I agree - it's a great place for it.

Have a good Monday - Heidi

I have never THOUGHT of making bagels before, but those look GREAT!

I've often wished for a kitchen computer for pulling up recipes and searching for stuff. Also, I think it's a great place for the "family" computer used by kids.

I grew up in a town close to the Quebec border and I am a huge bagel AND smoked meat snob. Only Montreal style bagels for me (even better if you get em from the Fairmont bakery) and you haven't lived till you have eaten Schwartz's smoked meat. I can barely stomach the other stuff. I will bookmark your bagel recipe and give em a whirl!

Those bagels look delicious! We baked this weekend, too (we never bake). I made banana bread (from a box because it tastes better to me) and Jason made peanut butter cookies (from a pre-packaged kit).

Oh man, you are making me hungry.

I wish we had space for a kitchen computer. So many recipes I love I have found online and have them bookmarked. It would be easier than running back and forth to see what is the next step. (Yes, I could write them down. Yes I could print them out. Who wants to waste the paper? Exercise is good for me :) )

Thos bagels look so good, OMG!!

Hub took our second computer to the office in his shop so our only PC is in the basement. I am gunning for a laptop before the baby comes.

Misty - I don't print them out either. That's the best part of the kitchen computer!

Our kitchen is too small. We have a dining room computer, though.

Mmmm... bagels.

Those look great. We do have a computer right off the kitchen and it gets used most as well. I love that I can easily keep track of how much it is used by the girls.

I've never thought to make bagels. I might have to give it a try. The cookies sound good, too. and I have coconut in the fridge right now!

The laptop finds its way into the kitchen pretty frequently, but I wouldn't mind a computer "station" if we had the room.

Hey Lori, I just got back from Joseph, and we did see it with Lee Mead. He was great! As was the narrator - she was unbelievable. Hope you get a chance to see it, too :)

Wow, you are making it hard to diet. That is the bummer of dieting, isn't it? That it's not as much fun to cook/bake, b/c so many of the truely yummy stuff is NOT diet food! =)

Also, we have a small kitchen, but I use my laptop in there daily. Love it. If ours was bigger, we'd install a more permanent one... we also have 3 home computers... I wonder if this is the norm?
