I was born in the wrong era

Is there anything more excruciating than shopping for a bathing suit?

We're going away for a couple of days (kids are on March Break). The hotel we're staying in has a pool, so I thought I should get a new bathing suit. My current suit was purchased when I was still nursing Maggie (i.e. when I still had boobs). Now it's just pathetic.

My issue isn't even with my body. I mean my body is not great by any stretch, but for someone my age with three little kids, it's not that bad. My skin, however, is awful. I would really prefer to be as covered as possible without looking like a grandma. I know my arms need to be exposed, but do I also need to show my whole back as well as my whole chest deep down to my (non-existent) cleavage?

I ended up getting something kind of hideous, but it comes up a little higher on the back and has wider straps so I don't feel quite so exposed. The downside is that it almost flattens my boobs entirely. Do you think I can stuff a bathing suit?

Swimsuits are the WORST. Makes shopping for jeans seem like a AFFIRMATION RETREAT.

I'm putting off buying a new suit as well. When I was a kid my mom always wore a t-shirt and shorts - now I know why!!!

I am holding off on buying one until I absolutely have to. Thank goodness they make coverups.

I just finished nursing my 3rd baby. I used to always kind of like my boobs. Until my kids ATE THEM. I'm sure it's not in my head - they're smaller, and lower. Not fair. Not even a little. That being said - get a suit you're comfortable in and don't worry about it. Enjoy your kids, have a good time, remember WHY you did all this to your body in the first place. I remember my mom doggy paddling around the pool so she wouldn't get her hair wet. It would have been WAY more fun if she'd have ignored what she looked like in the pool and just goofed around with us.

What I do with swimsuits is just buy a bunch that look good, then try them on at HOME, like when I've been DRINKING and have the appropriate mood lighting or whatevs. Then I return the duds.

Enjoy your Spring Break! Yay!

I mailed it in and actually bought a suit with padded boobs. And know what--I really like it! It's comfortable and I don't look like a mom who's nursed 3 kids!

Comfort is key.

I've found that the best suits for me are halters. They usually come up higher on the back and they are adjustable in the boob area so there's not any sagginess around my small boobs.

I have a stupid padded swim top and the pads fell out in my dresser drawer, so I grabbed the suit and headed to the hotel water park and HELLO! No boobs and when I was um, chilly, you could totally tell. NICE.

I also like suits with more coverage so that there's less chance of one of my children accidentally exposing something while they hang on me/while I carry them.

Oh, I hate swimsuits. But! I found one that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. It actually has and underwire and small pads so I don't look ridiculous, and a little skirt to hide my ass. I love it. It is old lady and ridiculous, but I've worn it more than all my other swimsuits - in my life - combined.

Have fun!

My bathing suit looks JUST like the gal in the middle, except mine doesn't have those garish stripes.

My next bathing suit? Long sleeves.

I'm either over exposed or flattened out in the bust. I can never win. :(

in my opinion, shopping for a bathing suit is more painful than giving birth. i've heard that there's a place here in toronto called Melmira where they're really helpful in finding the most flattering suit for someone.
