Kids are amazing.

Last night Lisa's friend's mom picked her up from our house after a playdate. This is the deaf mom.

I watched in amazement as my little girl had a full conversation with her. In sign language. Sign language that she learned while playing at her house.

Awhile ago Swistle talked about the Signing Time series and how good it was. I mentioned it to my mom, who was looking for Christmas suggestions for the kids. If it doesn't turn up under the tree, I will definitely be buying it myself. Because what happened yesterday was just about the coolest thing I've ever seen.

Kids constantly amaze me at their resiliency, their ability to adapt and their constant openness to learn something like sign language for instance. That really is SO very cool!!!

that is awesome and wonderful. also makes me think of the scene in miracle on 34th street where Santa signs to the little girl and now I'm crying at my desk

This is awesome. I remember learning the sign language alphabet when I was a kid and I STILL remember it to this day.

Our little girl who is 17 months knows a handful of signs and it makes things so much easier!!!! Although, she loves signing "cookie" all of the time, and I just can't bring myself to give her a cookie first thing in the morning!

That is quite amazing! I can still remember being in Kindergarten and signing while we sang a song. I remember it to this day.

Amazing! And imagine what it's doing for her understanding of the world and all its wonderful differences, as well! She's a lucky girl :)

Wow, it is so amazing the way they soak everything up, especially in a natural immersion environment like that. I really wish I was fluent in another language to teach them-guess I should work at that.

It's AMAZING how quickly children can pick things up. My sister-in-law did the baby sign language thing with my neice and it always blew me away at how much she knew. Before she was even one she could tell me when she was hungry, thirsty, tired, had a question, wanted mom or dad, etc. (and also of course, all the animals you could think of)

Very cool. Now she'll teach you!

Ugh, maybe not, that would be pressure.

Still very neat, it's amazing what our kids can teach us.

The Signing Time DVDs have been so much fun. It is SO WEIRD to see a 2-year-old signing. It has saved my butt several times, like when she's signing "cracker" and I hadn't understood what she was saying until then.

I was also surprised that _I_ was picking it up. I took sign language in college and thought I "couldn't learn it" because it was such a struggle. The DVDs are so much easier.

We have some of them also & although they don't keep his attention (Liam is almost 16 months old) for the entire duration, I have found him picking up some signs along the way! It's very cool & I have to watch him closely when he's repeating something (usually "eat") cause of course it doesn't look perfect! That is way cool though that your daughter has picked it up so easily & found a way to communicate with the mom!

That's beautiful! My kids LOVE the Signing Time episodes that come on PBS once in a while - I think I might get The Baby a DVD for Christmas, too.
